Oil paintings and more oil painting...

There is a place in Shenzhen that we visited, the whole village is dedicated to oil painting! You can find almost everything here, from abstract art, contemporary art, replicas of Van Gogh, Monet... all for a cut throat price. And I must say that the paintings are extremely well done and of good quality too.
Guess who the statue is? Hmm... none other than leonardo da vinci himself, which the village is named after.

A week away from home in Shenzhen...

Was at Shen Zhen for a week and stayed at Fraser Residence Service Apartment. The first time I get to stay at a service apartment, meaning a hotel with a kitchen and there are people cleaning up the mess for you! (This means that you don't have to wash the plates, bowls and cups after you use them)

Stayed in room 0602... On the 3rd day, the toilet bowl was clogged... and we could not flush! And the poo just remain in the toilet bowl, refuse to leave the house! It was really disgusting. The next day, the water pipe in the toilet burst! (Was it me that is the unlucky one??) So the service apartment offered a change of room to 0701.

The room is really nice, with bay window and balcony. Kitchen and the living room is partitioned with a wall. At least it looks more like a house. The most cosy area is of course the bedroom. :)

What did I do in Shenzhen for a week? Work, rest, relax and watch DVD. Finished the whole season of Lost 3 and Heroes. I could not believe that I can watch so much TV serial but I really enjoyed both of them. I think that I am addicted to the two serial and can't wait for the new season to start!

What a difference 7 months make...

Picture was taken in Oct 2006, totally flat ground, nothing built...
7 months down the road, the structure is finally up! Exciting to see and monitor the progress. Hoping that it will be completed and handed over by the end of the year, so that I can move in... Now's the time to start shopping for furniture and lightings!

Treasure hunting!

Participate in a very small scale (a.k.a badly organised) Treasure Hunt last weekend. It was actually a Food and Heritage Hunt, so you would expect lots of food and hunting games. But it was quite a disappointing event overall because me and my team won NOTHING!

First station was the Esplanade Park and we were asked to search for the following locations and snap a picture of these places using our mobile phone. Any idea where these places are?

Answer:
Yhingthai Place, a Thai Restaurant at Purvis Street

Answer:
NO IDEA!!

Answer:
Obvious right? The Cavenagh Bridge next to Fullerton Hotel. DUH?? How stupid is the organiser of the hunt to give this kind of task? No brainer! Something more challenging please...

Answer:
Statue of Sir Stamford Raffles in front of Victoria Concert Hall.

Answer:
One of the monuments in Esplanade Park. Name? Forgotten liao...
After snapping a series of other photos, we had to complete a set of jigsaw puzzle in under 8 minutes. Erm... Jigsaw Puzzle? Treasure Hunt? Erm... more creative please!
After completing these tasks, we had to run down to our next check-point at Bugis. Over there, we had to search for a number of answers to some heritage questions, do Bambo Rock dance (all old people, so my team sprained our back!) and play chatek. We failed miserably because none of us can really kick chatek!
From Bugis, we were instructed to run down to Chinatown and had to search for more answers to more heritage questions. Some of the places we had to visit are:

It was a good experience but I think many other teams cheated as they gave answers to their friends in other teams and shared the prize money of $500. Overall, this was a bad experience compared to other treasure hunts I had participated in (remember the Half-a-million-dollar Treasure Hunt??!!).

Laugh and be merry....

Went to catch Spiderman 3 about 2 weeks ago. What a big yawn and a huge disappointment. What has the director done to the superhero that I love so much in Spiderman 1 and Spiderman 2. We were practically yawning inside the theatre... Last weekend, we caught Next, by Nicholas Cage. Review about the movie was only so so... But i enjoyed it. Not highly recommended but I think it is much better than Spiderman 3. Am waiting for the arrival of Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter to arrive!!

At the theatre, saw the posters for The Simpsons. So like many Singaporeans who could not be bothered with whatever piracy law there is, snapped some pictures of the posters and I really love the Bart Simpson's poster. Way too cool... :-)
